'Insidious: Chapter 2' opened on Friday (September 13) and made a strong start at US box office
A third Insidious film is already in the works after the second instalment made a strong start at the box office, Variety reports.
Following its release on Friday (September 13), Insidious: Chapter 2 took a hefty $41.1 million (£25.9 million) in US cinemas over its opening weekend – an especially impressive total given the film’s modest $5 million (£3.1 million) budget. The original Insidious film came out in 2010 and raked in $97 million (£61 million) worldwide from a tiny $1.5 million (£0.9 million) budget.
Leigh Whannell, writer of the first two Insidious films, has signed up to script the third instalment and the production team behind both movies is coming back too. However, it is currently unknown if director James Wan will return to helm Insidious 3. He is currently shooting Fast & Furious 7 with Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham.
Insidious and Insidious: Chapter 2 both star Patrick Wilson, Rose Byrne and Barbara Hershey as members of a family with potentially dangerous connections to the spirit world. Watch the trailer for the second film below.
