Jamie Bell joins cast of sexually explicit ‘Nymphomaniac’ film

But producers say sex scenes will be performed 'with the help of body doubles and visual effects'

Jamie Bell has joined the cast of controversial new movie Nymphomaniac, says The Hollywood Reporter.

The erotic film project from director Lars von Trier will trace the sexual progress of a woman, played by Charlotte Gainsbourg, from her youth to the age of 50. Nymphomaniac will be split into two standalone films, each of which will receive a milder and more explicit cut from von Trier.

Shia LaBeouf has also been cast in the controversial two-parter. Earlier this month (August 20), he appeared to suggest that he had agreed to shoot “real” sex scenes for the project. He said at the time: “Nymphomaniac is what you think it is. It is Lars von Trier, making a movie about what he’s making. For instance, there’s a disclaimer at the top of the script that basically says we’re doing it for real. Everything that is illegal, we’ll shoot in blurred images. Other than that, everything is happening.”

However, producers have now confirmed that the sex scenes will be performed “with the help of body doubles and visual effects”. It is believed that the most explicit sequences will feature porn actors.

Nymphomaniac, whose cast also includes Nicole Kidman, Willem Dafoe, Stellan Skarsgård and Connie Nielsen, began filming in Germany yesterday (August 29). Von Trier’s shoot is expected to last for 11 weeks.
