Actor will play Alfred in Zack Snyder's 'Man Of Steel' sequel
Jeremy Irons says the much-anticipated big-screen showdown Superman vs Batman still doesn’t have a finished script.
The actor, who has been cast as Bruce Wayne’s butler and confidante Alfred in Zack Snyder’s Man Of Steel sequel told Absolute Radio: “The script isn’t entirely finished. I’ve read a script, but it’s not finalised. We haven’t started work yet. It’ll be as much a surprise to me as you.”
Irons went on to lend his support to Ben Affleck, who will play the Dark Knight in the film. Affleck’s casting was met with derision online, and even prompted a petition to have him removed from the film. Irons said: “I think his casting is a wonderful idea. He’s a lovely man and an interesting actor. I’ve only met him once so I’m looking forward to getting to know him.”
In an interview with LA Times earlier this month, director Zack Snyder reassured fans that he knew what was happening with the film and defended the casting: “We know the material,” he said. “Unfortunately, the fans don’t know the material. I understand the canon. I’m not crazy. I know what these characters need from a mythological standpoint. So, we’re casting according to what’s happening in the script. And we’re hoping that leads to enough originality, enough perspective on what we’re doing that you get something fresh and exciting.”
The release date of the film was recently moved from 2015 to April 29, 2016, sparking rumours the film will become a full-blown Justice League movie than a straight-up sequel to Man Of Steel. Henry Cavill will return as Superman as will Amy Adams and Laurence Fishburne as Lois Lane and Perry White respectively. As well as Irons and Affleck, newcomers on the cast will be Jesse Eisenberg, who’ll play Lex Luthor, and Gal Gadot, who has been cast as Wonder Woman.
