John David Washington and Adam Driver team up in first trailer for Spike Lee’s ‘BlacKkKlansman’

The first trailer for Spike Lee’s hard-hitting new film BlacKkKlansman has been released. Check it out below.

Starring John David Washington and Adam Driver, the film is based on the true story of Stallworth – a black police officer who went undercover and successfully infiltrated a Ku Klux Klan chapter. He detailed his experiences in a book of the same name.

The trailer begins with Ron Stallworth starting a new new job in law enforcement – where he’s assigned to take down the Ku Klux Klan.

“Since you asked, I hate blacks. I hate Jews, Mexicans and Irish, Italians and Chinese,” says Washington as Stallworth to the KKK leader in the scene. “But my mouth to God’s ears, I really hate those black brats. And anyone else, really, that doesn’t have pure white Aryan blood running through their veins.”

The film sees Washington flanked by Adam Driver as his partner Flip Zimmerman – who is forced to pretend to be Stallworth after he makes contact with the KKK.

“Ron Stallworth is reading the paper, the Colorado Springs Gazette, and the Klan put an add in the paper that they needed new members,” Lee told The Hollywood Reporter of the film. “Ron Stallworth thinks that it’s a goof so he calls up and, thinking it’s a joke, leaves his real name and phone number on a voicemail — and the Klan calls back. They say, ‘We want you to come down.’

“Since he’s an African American, he can’t really show up for the interview. He has to get a white police officer to play him, and that’s Adam Driver.”

BlacKkKlansman will be released in the US on August 10 and in the UK on August 24.
