She'll play ruthless leader President Alma Coin in the franchise's final two instalments

Julianne Moore has officially joined the cast of The Hunger Games.

Moore was linked to the franchise in June of this year (2013) and has now signed a deal to play President Alma Coin, a ruthless and scheming leader who has a prominent role in Suzanne Moore’s final Hunger Games novel, Mockingjay, which is being split into two standalone films.

The two Mockingjay movies are set for release in November 2014 and November 2015 respectively. Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth will all reprise their roles from the first two Hunger Games films and alongside Moore Game Of Thrones actress Natalie Dormer has joined the cast for Mockingjay too.

In the meantime, the second Hunger Games film, Catching Fire, will open in cinemas worldwide on November 22 of this year (2013). It has recently been announced that the film will have its world premiere in London shortly beforehand on November 11. Watch the trailer below.

Catching Fire is the sequel to last year’s The Hunger Games, which grossed close to $700 million (£450 million) worldwide, becoming the ninth highest earner of 2012. Moore, 52, is known for her acclaimed roles in films including Boogie Nights, Magnolia, Far From Heaven and The Kids Are All Right and has collected four Oscar nominations over the years.
