Karen Gillan talks ‘fierce’ fight scenes in ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’

Actress plays the role of Nebula in forthcoming blockbuster

Guardians Of The Galaxy actress Karen Gillan has discussed the training schedule she undertook ahead of the “fierce” fight scenes in the movie.

Gillan, best known for playing Amy Pond in BBC drama Doctor Who, will star alongside Chris Pratt and Bradley Cooper in the blockbuster, which opens in the UK on August 14.

Speaking to Total Film about toughening up for the role, Gillan said: “I started off with just working out. They wanted me to just look a bit tougher. I started eating lots of protein. I went on this diet of more food, rather than less… I was like, ‘You want me to eat everything? Perfect!'”

She then adds: “These women character are just so fierce. The fight sequences aren’t graceful – they’re hard and strong.”

Guardians Of The Galaxy boasts a bumper cast including Zoe Saldana and Vin Diesel. John C Reilly, Benicio Del Toro and WWE wrestler Dave Bautista also appear. Director James Gunn began shooting the film in July last year (2013).

It was reported recently that Marvel are already discussing a sequel to the film, which could potentially be released on May 6, 2016 – a date which has been reserved for an unannounced project by Marvel, and would come shortly after a Guardians Of The Galaxy cartoon series premieres on Disney XD in autumn 2015. Marvel, however, have not yet commented on the reports.
