Aaron Johnson's self-made superhero joins forces with a 'badass' played by Jim Carrey...
A plot teaser for Kick-Ass 2 has been released by Universal Studios.
Released in 2010, the original Kick-Ass told the story of an ordinary teenager, played by Aaron Johnson, who reinvents himself a real-life superhero called Kick-Ass. Adapted from a comic book of the same name, Kick-Ass was not a huge box office success, but the film has built a cult following on DVD and Blu-ray.
In the sequel, Kick-Ass joins forces with a “badass” superhero called Colonel Stars And Stripes, played by Jim Carrey. Chloe Moretz is back as sidekick Hit Girl, while Christopher Mintz-Plasse returns as Red Mist, the superhero who betrayed Kick-Ass in the first film.
The official plot synopsis, as revealed by ComingSoon.net, runs as follows: “Kick-Ass, Hit Girl and Red Mist return for the follow-up to 2010’s irreverent global hit: Kick-Ass 2. After Kick-Ass’ insane bravery inspires a new wave of self-made masked crusaders, led by the badass Colonel Stars and Stripes, our hero joins them on patrol. When these amateur superheroes are hunted down by Red Mist – reborn as The Mother F%&*^r – only the blade-wielding Hit Girl can prevent their annihilation.”
Kick-Ass 2 – which previously had the longer title Kick-Ass 2: Balls To The Wall – began shooting in Toronto, Canada last month (September 2012). Alongside Carrey, Scrubs star Donald Faison and Super Mario Bros actor John Leguizamo have also joined the cast for the sequel.
The sequel is being directed by Jeff Wadlow, who also wrote the script based on the original Kick-Ass 2 comic book. It will open in cinemas on June 28 2013 in the US and July 19 2013 in the UK.
