'Twilight' star plays a Guantanamo guard in latest film 'Camp X-Ray'
Kristen Stewart has announced she plans to take a break from acting.
Speaking in an interview to promote her latest film Camp X-Ray the actress said that she has wrapped on her ‘final’ film – the futuristic Equals co-starring Nicholas Hoult – and won’t be reading any new scripts for a while.
“I’m taking some time off because I’ve been working for two years. I’m an actor and that’s my art form, and because I started that so young, I’ve always felt intimidated and insufficient when I think about other forms of art I want to create. I’m going to take so much time off,” Stewart told USA Today.
She added: “I’m going to buy a live-work space in downtown LA and I’m going to make some (stuff) with my hands. Literally, I made that decision a few weeks ago. I’m making a short film. I’m making a bunch of (stuff). I don’t know how I’ll put it out. But I’m not going to hold it so preciously close to me. I write all the time.”
In Camp X-Ray Stewart plays new military recruit Amy Cole. The film’s synopsis has revealed Cole joined the military “to be part of something bigger than herself and her small town roots” but the unfortunate rookie “ends up as a new guard at Guantanamo Bay instead”.
“Her mission is far from black and white. Surrounded by hostile jihadists and aggressive squadmates, she strikes up an unusual friendship with one of the detainees [played by Peyman Maadi]. A story of two people, on opposite sides of a war, struggling to find their way through the ethical quagmire of Guantanamo Bay. And in the process, they form an unlikely bond that changes them both.”
The film made its UK premiere at the London Film Festival. A general release date for Camp X-Ray is yet to be confirmed. Watch the trailer below.
As reported the world of The Twilight Saga is set to return through five short films which will premiere exclusively on Facebook next year.
