Actor sought to reteam with 'Shutter Island' scribe
Inception and The Departed star Leonardo DiCaprio is being pursued for the lead in the, yet to be released, novel Live By Night by Dennis Lehane.
As reported by Deadline, Warner Bros have bought the film rights hoping to entice DiCaprio, whose company Appian Way is set to produce, into the star role.
Live By Night is set to be the second instalment in a planned trilogy by Lehane, borrowing characters from the already released and well received period novel, The Given Day. Little is known about the follow-up thus far, other than its setting of prohibition era Boston.
Lehane’s previous works Mystic River, Gone Baby Gone and Shutter Island have all received high levels of critical acclaim, with the former earning a Best Actor Oscar for Sean Penn. The much revered author has also worked on the hit HBO show The Wire.
DiCaprio is currently filming Django Unchained, his first team up with Quentin Tarantino, in which he will take on the villainous role of slave owner Calvin Candie opposite Jamie Foxx’s titular hero.
The novel of Live By Night is due for release in October. Django Unchained is due in cinemas December 25.
