‘Mad Men’ star Jon Hamm lands lead voice role in ‘Despicable Me’ spin-off

Titled 'Minions', the computer-animated movie also stars Sandra Bullock and is due out in 2014

Jon Hamm is to provide one of the lead voices in the Despicable Me spin-off movie.

Titled Minions, the 3D computer-animated movie will star Sandra Bullock as a “stylish badass supervillain” called Scarlet Overkill. According to Deadline, Hamm has signed on to play her inventor husband Herb Overkill.

Minions is scheduled for release on December 19, 2014. It’s being directed by Pierre Coffin, who also helmed this summer’s Despicable Me 2, a sequel to 2010’s Despicable Me.

Steve Carell, Russell Brand and Kristen Wiig have all reprised their roles from the original Despicable Me film, which grossed over $534 million (£336 million) worldwide. Joining them for the sequel are Al Pacino, Steve Coogan and The Hangover‘s Ken Jeong.
