‘Man Of Steel’ star Henry Cavill says joint Superman and Batman movie could be ‘really interesting’

'They are two different sides of the same coin,' says actor

Man Of Steel actor Henry Cavill has said that a movie featuring both Superman and Batman could be “really interesting”.

Cavill will star in Zack Snyder’s forthcoming reboot of the Superman franchise and, in an interview with SFX, said a superhero collaboration on the big screen between his character and Gotham’s vigilante crimefighter would make for a “great story”.

“I think it would be really interesting with the age-old Batman/Superman conflict,” he said. “Because they are two different sides of the same coin and their methods are entirely different. And I think it would actually make for an interesting story as to why, first of all, they were going head to head and how. I think that would make a great story.”

When asked if Warner were exploring it as a possibility, he replied: “Who knows? I’m sure there’s all sorts of ideas being thrown around at Warner Bros right now.”

Man Of Steel opens in cinemas on June 14. British actor Cavill stars alongside Amy Adams as Lois Lane and Russell Crowe as his biological father Jor-El. Kevin Costner and Diane Lane appear as his adoptive parents, Jonathan and Martha Kent.

Man Of Steel was directed by Zack Snyder (Watchmen, 300) from a script by David S Goyer, whose previous screenwriting credits include Batman Begins and the Blade films. The Dark Knight trilogy’s Christopher Nolan collaborated with Goyer on the film’s story and also served as a producer.

However, Goyer has recently insisted that Man Of Steel will have a very different tone to Nolan’s Batman films. “Relatable and realistic doesn’t necessarily mean dark,” he explained. “I think it would be inappropriate for us to approach a Superman film as if we were doing The Dark Knight. The Batman films are a lot more nihilistic; Superman has always been a story about hope.”
