Luke Skywalker has given his approval to the latest Star Wars story
Mark Hamill has praised Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, the latest movie set in the Star Wars galaxy.
The film, released on Friday (December 15) was directed by Gareth Edwards and stars Felicity Jones as rebel fighter Jyn Erso. Diego Luna, Riz Ahmed and Forest Whitaker are also part of the movie, which is a prequel to George Lucas’ 1977 original.
The Luke Skywalker actor revealed his praise of the film via Twitter, writing: “Perfect Cast Astonishing Action Non-Stop Thrills Grabs U from the 1st frame & never lets go! Not just a great #SWMovie A #GreatMovie PERIOD! I’m euphoric & exhilarated! Ingenious the way it deepens & expands the #SWUniverse yet works as a stand-alone movie #RogueOneDerful #Triumph”
Alt-right protestors called for a boycott of the Star Wars spin-off after one of the film’s writers tweeted alluding to parallels between the sci-fi universe and Donald Trump’s election.
Chris Weitz wrote: “Please note that the Empire is a white supremacist (human) organisation opposed by a multi-cultural group led by brave women”, which provoked protestors to begin using the hashtag #DumpStarWars. Weitz later deleted the tweet and apologised for his comments.
Earlier this year, Mark Hamill was hailed after he gave a brilliant response to a female fan who wanted to dress up as Luke Skywalker. Star Wars fan Jessica Bentley wanted to seek the final seal of approval from Luke Skywalker himself after she planned a costume ahead of a trip to Comic Con.
Posting on Twitter, she wrote: “Can I go to comic con as Luke Skywalker even though I’m a girl? I’m doing it anyways 🙂 #wigsarefun”
“Gender matters not when you’re rocking’ the Force like you are, baby! #FantasticallyForcefulFemme #JoltinJediJessica”, he enthusiastically replied.
