This year's bash is being hosted by Seth MacFarlane, the badass bear's creator

Mark Wahlberg is to appear with his furry friend Ted at the Oscars next month (February 2013).

This year’s Academy Awards bash is being hosted by Seth MacFarlane, who wrote and directed the Ted movie as well as providing the voice of the badass bear. The ceremony takes place at LA’s Dolby Theatre on February 24.

Speaking on US talk show Anderson Live, Wahlberg revealed: “Because Seth is hosting the Oscars, Ted and I will be appearing.” When asked whether Ted will refrain from “smoking a bong” beforehand, Wahlberg joked: “He can’t do it without it. It’s mandatory.”

MacFarlane’s R-rated comedy film opened in cinemas last June (2012) and became a surprise box office smash, grossing over $500 million (£310 million) worldwide. A sequel is now in the works.

Discussing the sequel during his talk show appearance, Wahlberg confirmed: “There is a Ted 2. We’ve already locked a deal – they’re off writing now. I’ve never done a sequel before, but I have so much confidence in Seth because he’s such a funny, talented guy.”

Last week (January 11), MacFarlane spoke about Ted 2 more cautiously, saying: “[There’s] nothing official yet. Everybody involved would like to do it, but it has not been officially signed off on yet. But it’s very promising.”
