Released in 1996, Matilda was a big screen adaptation of the much-loved Roald Dahl novel directed by Danny DeVito. Wilson, then nine years old, starred as the film’s super intelligent heroine.

Wilson, who also starred in classic family movies Mrs Doubtfire and Miracle On 34th Street, made her last film appearance in 2000. Now 25, she works as a writer and explains at some length why she gave up acting on her personal website.
