The buddy-cop movie is director Paul Feig’s follow-up to Bridesmaids, the R-rated comedy that became an unexpected smash in 2011. The Heat reunites Feig with Bridesmaids actress Melissa McCarthy, who stars opposite Oscar-winner Sandra Bullock.

The film’s premise is described as follows: “Uptight FBI Special Agent Sarah Ashburn (Sandra Bullock) and foul-mouthed Boston cop Shannon Mullins (Melissa McCarthy) couldn’t be more incompatible. But when they join forces to bring down a ruthless drug lord, they become the last thing anyone expected: buddies.”

The film’s script was written by Katie Dippold, whose CV includes several episodes of US sitcom Parks And Recreation. The Heat opens in UK cinemas on April 5.

Back in September, it was reported that McCarthy was about to take a cameo role in The Hangover 3, though this has yet to be confirmed. The actress has previously insisted that she would only consider a Bridesmaids sequel if Kristen Wiig, who wrote and starred in the original, is involved.
