‘Men In Black’ to be ‘reinvented’ as new trilogy without Will Smith

Original 'Men In Black' producers Walter Parkes and MacDonald confirm rumours of a reboot

Men In Black producers Walter Parkes and Laurie MacDonald have revealed that they are in the process of “reinventing” the sci-fi franchise as a new trilogy.

The duo produced the original 1997 Men In Black film starring Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones and its two sequels, which followed in 2002 and 2012. Now they have confirmed recent rumours that the franchise is getting a reboot.

“We’re in the middle of it. It’s very active,” Parkes told The Hollywood Reporter when about the franchise’s revival, before Macdonald added: “It will be reinvented as a trilogy.”

Asked whether Will Smith will be a part of the new trilogy, Parkes replied: “Most likely no.”

Men In Black 3, in which Smith and Jones were joined by Emma Thompson and Josh Brolin, became the franchise’s most successful instalment, grossing $624 million (£410 million) at the box office globally in 2012. The following year, it was reported that a script was being written for Men In Black 4 but the project later stalled.
