The director has caused controversy by planning to make them aliens in new film
Michael Bay has incurred the wrath of a former Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles actor for “sodomising” their origin story in his new movie.
The director is making a live action reboot of the cult franchise, and yesterday said that he was planning to have the Turtles as aliens in his new story. He said: “These turtles are from an alien race and they are going to be tough, edgy, funny and completely loveable.”
Fans were left uneasy, since the reptilian heroes were originally pet turtles who mutated after being exposed to toxic waste in the New York sewers. Now, Robbie Rist, who voiced Michaelangelo in the original films, has joined the chorus of dissent.
He wrote on an open letter to Bay on his Facebook page: “You probably don’t know me but I did some voice work on the first set of movies that you are starting to talk about sodomizing.”
He continued: “Look man, I think you have some pretty nifty action ideas (of course on the other side, the minute ANYONE in your movies starts using actual dialog I seem to catch myself nodding off), but seriously, Teenage ALIEN Ninja Turtles?”
I know believing in mutated talking turtles is kinda silly to begin with but am I supposed to be led to believe there are ninjas from another planet?
“You know that ninjas are a certain kind of cultural charact…. Oh what the hell am I talking to you for? The rape of our childhood memories continues.”
Jonathan Liebesman (Wrath of the Titans) is expected to direct Ninja Turtles reboot for Paramount, ahead of a Christmas 2012 release.
