Dissenting voices continue over Bay's plans for the heroes in a half-shell
Michael Bay has once again reassured fans over the title change of his movie Ninja Turtles.
The director has already provoked the ire of hardcore turtles fans over his plans to change the origin of the reptilian heroes to make them into alien characters.
Now, there has been further consternation after it emerged that the film’s title will be shortened from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Taking to his Shoot For The Edit forums, Bay wrote:
Paramount marketing changed the name. They made the title simple. The characters you all remember are exactly the same, and yes they still act like teenagers. Everything you remember, why you liked the characters, is in the movie.
Bay will produce the movie with Jonathan Libesman behind the camera, and Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec writing the rebooted screenplay. Bay added: “This script is being developed by two very smart writers, with one of the original creators of Ninja Turtles. They care VERY MUCH about making this film for the fans.
“Everyone on this team cares about the fans. Just give them a chance. Jonathan the director is a major fan of the whole franchise. HE’S NOT GOING TO LET YOU DOWN.”
Robbie Rist, who previously provided the voice of Michaelangelo, recently accused Bay of “sodomising” the legacy of the turtles.
