New ‘Deadpool’ trailer to be released on Christmas Day

Ryan Reynolds will star in the upcoming comic book film

A new trailer for upcoming comic book movie Deadpool will air on Christmas Day (December 25) ahead of the film’s release early next year.

Deadpool will open in cinemas on February 12, 2016. Ryan Reynolds, who plays the titular character, is backed by a supporting cast that includes Haywire‘s Gina Carano, former Homeland actress Morena Baccarin and Silicon Valley star TJ Miller.

While a first, NSFW trailer has already been unveiled, another will follow during ESPN’s NBA coverage at Christmas. Watch the first trailer below.

Ryan Reynolds first played Wade Wilson aka Deadpool, a Marvel Comics anti-hero famed for his wise-cracking personality and tendency to break the fourth wall, in 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine. The cult character’s long-awaited solo movie has been in the works since 2010.

The film’s official plot synopsis teases: “Based upon Marvel Comics’ most unconventional anti-hero, Deadpool tells the origin story of former Special Forces operative turned mercenary Wade Wilson, who after being subjected to a rogue experiment that leaves him with accelerated healing powers, adopts the alter ego Deadpool. Armed with his new abilities and a dark, twisted sense of humour, Deadpool hunts down the man who nearly destroyed his life.”

Director Tim Miller has confirmed that Ryan Reynolds’ anti-hero will be portrayed as “pansexual” – namely, attracted to people of any gender – in the forthcoming film.

Asked if the eagerly anticipated superhero movie will present a “hyper-sexualised” version of Deadpool, Miller told Collider: “Pansexual! I want that quoted. Pansexual Deadpool.”

Meanwhile, Reynolds explained that the film will not shy away from showing the character’s sexual side, saying: “There is some sexuality in this movie for sure. You kinda think you have moments when you’re shooting where you think, ‘This is, uh, a little excessive. This is a comic book movie. Are we gonna get away with this?’ But so far so good. Studio hasn’t crushed us with anything.”

“We did a photo shoot for an entire day of just different, completely insane things that Deadpool is doing and there’s a lot more to come,” the actor added. “They’ll be slowly released.”
