Superhero sequel starring Aaron Johnson and Jim Carrey opens in cinemas on August 14
A brand new clip from Kick-Ass 2 has been released online. Scroll down and click ‘play’ to watch it.
The clip shows Clark Duke’s Marty telling Aaron Johnson‘s Dave about The Mother Fucker and his Twitter account. “The Mother Fucker: he’s some guy planning to be the world’s first supervillain. He’s got like a thousand followers already,” Marty explains. “What an asshole,” Dave responds, before the teaser ends with a full-screen plug for the @motherf_cker Twitter account.
Jim Carrey has joined the cast for Kick-Ass 2 and plays a “badass” called Colonel Stars And Stripes who teams up with Johnson’s hero. However, Carrey has recently distanced himself from the film, telling his Twitter followers on June 23: “I did Kickass a month b4 Sandy Hook and now in all good conscience I cannot support that level of violence.”
Mark Millar, creator of the original Kick-Ass comic books and an executive producer on the movies, responded to Carrey’s comments the same day, writing on his official website: “Jim, I love ya and I hope you reconsider… You’re amazing in this insanely fun picture.”
Based on Millar’s comic book, the first Kick-Ass film told the story of an ordinary teenager, Dave Lizewski, who reinvents himself as a real-life superhero called Kick-Ass. When it opened in cinemas in 2010, Kick-Ass wasn’t a huge box office success, but it’s since built a strong following on DVD and Blu-ray.
Director Jeff Wadlow shot the sequel in Toronto between September and November last year (2012). Alongside Carrey and Johnson, Kick-Ass 2 stars Chloë Moretz, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, John Leguizamo and former Scrubs actor Donald Faison. It opens in cinemas on August 14.
