In the two-and-a-half-minute teaser, Bruce Willis‘ retired CIA agent is forced back into the world of espionage to help recover a stolen bomb, which was originally created by a mad scientist played by Anthony Hopkins.
John Malkovich, Mary-Louise Parker and Helen Mirren, who plays a former MI5 agent hired to kill Willis’ character, also return from 2010’s Red, which stands for “Retired and Extremely Dangerous”. The golden oldies action-comedy was a surprise hit at the box office, grossing a shade under $200m (£125m) worldwide.
The roster is boosted with the addition of Catherine Zeta Jones, Hopkins and Byung-hun Lee to the cast for the sequel, which was directed by Dean Parisot (Galaxy Quest, Fun With Dick And Jane). The film’s script was written by John and Erich Hoeber, who also penned the original.
Red 2 opens in UK cinemas on August 2 this year (2013).
