The follow-up to 'Shaun Of The Dead' and 'Hot Fuzz' opens in cinemas on July 19
The World’s End – the new sci-fi comedy starring Simon Pegg and Nick Frost – will apparently feature a secret cameo.
The film is the final instalment in the so-called ‘Three Flavours Cornetto Trilogy’ from writer-star Pegg and writer-director Edgar Wright. The loose movie trilogy began in 2004 with zombie comedy Shaun Of The Dead and continued with 2007’s Hot Fuzz, a spoof of so-called “buddy cop” action flicks.
During a Q&A session with Yahoo!, Wright told one inquisitive fan that Pegg’s former Spaced co-star Jessica Hynes does not appear in The World’s End, before adding mysteriously: “But there are other cameos. Including a man that has yet to appear in the films.”
Alongside Pegg and Frost, confirmed cast members include Sherlock star Martin Freeman, Happy-Go-Lucky‘s Eddie Marsan and former Bond girl Rosamund Pike. Meanwhile, Rafe Spall and Paddy Considine are both back from Hot Fuzz.
The story follows a group of childhood friends who reunite 20 years later to repeat an “epic pub crawl” from their youth. However, as their drinking marathon progresses, events take an apocalyptic twist and the group unwittingly becomes humankind’s only hope for survival.
The World’s End was originally scheduled to open in August, but has recently had its release date brought forward and will now arrive in UK cinemas on July 19. The film’s latest trailer came out on Wednesday (May 22) and you can watch it here.
