Trailer shown during last night's (March 31) 'Ant & Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway'

A new Star Trek Into Darkness trailer was shown during Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway last night (March 30). The promo has now appeared online – scroll down and click ‘play’ to watch it.

The action-packed one minute teaser includes all the main characters, including Chris Pine’s James Kirk and Zachary Quinto’s Spock, with the focus being primarily on the Enterprise crew. However, there is a fleeting appearance from the film’s mysterious villain, played by Benedict Cumberbatch.

Back in December (2012), director JJ Abrams shed some light on Cumberbatch’s character, saying: “His name is John Harrison and he is sort of an average. That is what makes him so scary – he is just an average guy who works in an organisation called Starfleet, and he turns against the group because he has got this back-story and this kind of amazing secret agenda.”

Exact plot details are being kept under wraps but the first nine minutes of Star Trek Into Darkness have been shown before IMAX screenings of The Hobbit. Click here for NME’s rundown of everything we know about the film so far.

Alongside Cumberbatch, Star Trek Into Darkness reunites the Enterprise crew from Abrams’ acclaimed 2009 reboot Star Trek, including Chris Pine‘s Captain Kirk, Zachary Quinto’s Spock and Simon Pegg’s Scotty. The film’s release date has recently been moved forward and it will now arrive in UK cinemas on May 9 – eight days earlier than originally planned.
