Christopher Nolan has spoken out about the differences between new Superman movie Man Of Steel and his groundbreaking trilogy of Batman films.
Nolan is a producer on Man Of Steel and also devised the film’s story with David S Goyer, who went on the pen the screenplay. The film is being directed by Zack Snyder, who previously helmed Watchmen and 300.
When asked about Man Of Steel‘s approach to the Superman saga, Nolan told The Playlist: “I wouldn’t want people to think we’re doing for Superman what we did for Batman. It’s very much Zack’s film and I think people are going to love what he’s done.”
Continuing to compare the two, Nolan explained: “Superman is a completely different character than Batman. So you can’t in anyway use the same template, but David Goyer had this brilliant way to make Superman relatable and relevant for his audience. Zack has built on that and I think it’s incredible what he’s putting together.”
Man Of Steel is scheduled for release on June 14, 2013 – but Nolan revealed that the film remains a work-in-progress. He added: “[Zack]’s got a lot of finishing to do… Superman is the biggest comic book character of them all and he needs the biggest possible movie version which is what Zack’s doing. It’s really something.”
The film stars Henry Cavill as Clark Kent aka Superman and Amy Adams as Lois Lane, while the bumper cast also includes Michael Shannon, Russell Crowe, Kevin Costner and Diane Lane. The first trailer was released this July (2012) and you can watch it below.
