New trailer for Guillermo del Toro’s ‘Pacific Rim’ appears online – watch

The eagerly-anticipated monster movie stomps into UK cinemas on July 12

A new trailer for Guillermo del Toro‘s eagerly-anticipated monster movie Pacific Rim has been released. Scroll down and click ‘play’ to watch it.

The new teaser was first shown at the WonderCon sci-fi convention in San Francisco in March. “This was originally intended for only WonderCon,” del Toro writes on the trailer’s YouTube page. “But after listening to so many of you asking for more of the movie online, I think it’s time for me to show you more footage. Enjoy, my friends!”

Pacific Rim is the first film directed by del Toro (pictured right) since 2008’s Hellboy 2: The Golden Army. The Mexican filmmaker’s previous directorial efforts include Pan’s Labyrinth and Blade II.

Del Toro has called Pacific Rim “a beautiful poem to giant monsters” inspired by classic Japanese monster movies like Godzilla. The film is set in the not-too-distant future and centres on a battle between giant robots operated by human soldiers and an incredibly powerful race of monsters that have emerged mysteriously from the ocean.

Pacific Rim stars Luther‘s Idris Elba, Sons Of Anarchy actor Charlie Hunnam and Charlie Day from It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia. It’s set to stomp into UK cinemas on July 12.
