Stars Jennifer Lawrence, Liam Hemsworth, Josh Hutcherson, Lenny Kravitz, Jeffrey Wright and Willow Shields all appealed at yesterday’s Comic-Con panel for the eagerly-anticipated sequel, joined by director Francis Lawrence.
The new trailer features a glimpse of a torture scene in which Hemsworth’s character Gale Hawthorne is publicly flogged. “It’s interesting to turn up to work and just get whipped for three days straight,” Hemsworth said during the panel. “At first it’s just acting, but after three days of getting hit with anything, it starts to hurt. It was good fun.”
Earlier in the panel, Lawrence was asked to describe the challenges her character Katniss Everdeen faces in the movie. “Life is very different now. She’s suffering from post-traumatic stress,” Lawrence explained. “She doesn’t harry to worry about food any more, that leaves her feeling useless. She’s experienced something with [Hutcherson’s character] Peeta and they now have this understanding.”
The Hunger Games: Catching Fire is the sequel to last year’s The Hunger Games, an adaptation of the first novel in a trilogy by author Suzanne Collins. The film grossed over $686million (£428million) worldwide, becoming the ninth highest earner of 2012.
New additions to the Hunger Games cast for Catching Fire include Philip Seymour Hoffman, who plays head gamemaker Plutarch Heavensbee, and Sam Claflin, whose character Finnick Odair is a potential love interest for Lawrence’s Katniss.
The Hunger Games: Catching Fire opens in UK cinemas on November 22. Collins’ final Hunger Games novel, Mockingjay, is being split into two separate films, which are set for release in November 2014 and November 2015.
