The two-and-a-half minute teaser begins with Chris Hemsworth‘s hero asking for help from his villainous adoptive brother Loki (Tom Hiddleston), before packing in plenty of thrills and spills including a rough time for London’s Greenwich district. Director Alan Taylor shot the sequel to 2011’s Thor late last year in England and Iceland.
Alongside Hemsworth and Hiddleston, original cast members Natalie Portman, Anthony Hopkins, Idris Elba and Stellan Skarsgård have all reprised their roles from the first Thor film, which grossed a shade under $450 million (£290 million) at cinemas worldwide.
Meanwhile, former Doctor Who star Christopher Eccleston has joined the cast and plays a supervillain called Malekith the Accursed. According to the film’s official synopsis, “a vengeful Malekith returns to plunge the universe back into darkness” and it falls on Hemsworth’s hammer-wielding hero to stop him.
Thor: The Dark World opens in UK cinemas on October 30 before getting a US release on November 8.
