Noomi Rapace reportedly set to play Amy Winehouse in unofficial biopic

Rapace has previously starred in 'Prometheus' and 'The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo'

Noomi Rapace will reportedly play Amy Winehouse in an unofficial biopic of the late singer.

Screen Daily
reports that Rapace, who has appeared in Prometheus and The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo as well as this year’s Child 44, is in talks to take the lead role in a script which is “gathering steam” among potential buyers.

The film has been written by Kristen Sheridan who would also direct should a studio pick up the title. The film is being produced by Dublin–based Subotica Films who recently made Jimi Hendrix music biopic Jimi: All Is by My Side. OutKast rapper Andre 3000 took the lead role in that film, which was panned by critics.

Jimi: All Is by My Side failed to obtain the rights to Hendrix’ music for the film. Screen Daily reports that music rights are currently in negotiation on Winehouse biopic.

Filmmakers will look to the success of this year’s Amy, the record-breaking documentary on Winehouse, when deciding whether to invest.

The film recently became the second biggest documentary ever at the UK box office, grossing £3.44million, surpassing director Asif Kapadia’s award-winning Senna (£.3.17 million).

Earlier this week it was confirmed that the team behind Amy are to make a new documentary about Oasis.

James Gay-Rees of production company On The Corner and director Asif Kapadia will follow up their work on the Amy Winehouse film with a new documentary charting the rise of Oasis from their early days as a band. Filmmakers are said to have been given “unprecedented” access to the band and unseen archive footage.

Kapadia will act as executive-director on the film with Mat Whitecross to direct. Whitecross has directed a number of Coldplay videos and 2012’s Spike Island.
