There's a bit of a wait for follow-up to 2013 blockbuster
Pacific Rim director Guillermo Del Toro has announced that the sequel to the 2013 science-fiction hit will be released in cinemas on April 7, 2017.
Del Toro made the announcement in a YouTube message, which can be seen below. Having initially hinted that any new film in the saga would most likely be a prequel, Del Toro has confirmed that it will be a sequel, again starring Charlie Hunnam and Rinko Kikuchi. Del Toro is writing the new film with The Incredible Hulk screenplay writer Zak Penn.
“I’m going for very new, very crazy ideas on the second one,” said Del Toro. “It’s very different, but you will get a really great spectacle.”
Del Toro is currently in Canada finishing ghost story Crimson Peak, which stars Hunnam alongside Tom Hiddleston and Jessica Chastain. It’s due for release in 2015. Del Toro recently revealed he quit as director of a live action version of Beauty And The Beast.
