Patrick Stewart wears drag to LA event and gets compared to Helen Mirren

'Something is happening in Hollywood tonight,' the actor writes on Twitter

Patrick Stewart surprised guests at a screening event in Los Angeles on Monday night (April 18) by arriving dressed in full drag.

The former Star Trek actor wore a pink satin dress, a silver wig and a full face of makeup for a special screening of his US sitcom Blunt Talk held to entice Emmy voters.

“Something is happening in Hollywood tonight,” he wrote on Instagram as he posted a picture of himself getting ready.

On Twitter, many of Stewart’s followers said the dragged up actor resembled Helen Mirren, “Helen Mirren’s older distinguished sister” or alternatively “Helen Mirren’s fun sister”.

Stewart did not say whether he would be appearing in drag in a future episode of Blunt Talk, in which he stars as a British newscaster called Walter Blunt who moves to Los Angeles to try to make it in US nightly news.

Season one of the show, whose executive producers include Seth MacFarlane, aired on Starz between August and October last year (2015). A second series of 10 episodes will follow later this year.

Stewart’s co-stars include Jacki Weaver, Adrian Scarborough and Ed Begley, Jr., while Elisabeth Shue, Jason Schwartzman and Moby were among the guest stars during season one.
