A petition to remove Matt Damon from ‘Ocean’s 8’ has attracted 18,000 signatures

"This behavior is beyond enabling — it's just gross. Matt Damon should not be in this movie",

A campaign to axe Matt Damon from Ocean’s 8 has secured almost 18,000 signatures after the actor was criticised for his comments about the sexual harassment scandal that is currently engulfing Hollywood.

The Oscar-winning star is due to briefly reprise his role as Linus Caldwell in the heist spin-off, which features a cast including Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, and Anne Hathaway.

But Damon’s involvement has angered fans after he spoke out in the aftermath of Harvey Weinstein being outed as a sexual predator – and claimed that more attention should be paid to good men in Hollywood.

“We’re in this watershed moment, and it’s great, but I think one thing that’s not being talked about is there are a whole s——- of guys – the preponderance of men I’ve worked with – who don’t do this kind of thing and whose lives aren’t going to be affected”, he told Business Insider.

Now, a PetitionSite campaign has attracted 17, 785 signatures at the time of writing.

“This behavior is beyond enabling — it’s just gross. Matt Damon should not be in this movie”, the petition states.

The latest comments come after actresses including Alyssa Milano and Minnie Driver criticised Damon for claiming that there was an entire “spectrum” of inappropriate behaviour.

Appearing on ABC News last week ,the actor said he thought it was “wonderful that women are feeling empowered to tell their stories and it’s totally necessary”, but went on to say that there’s a “spectrum” of inappropriate behaviour: “There’s a difference between patting someone on the butt and rape or child molestation, right?”
