The Oscar winner will reportedly play Head Gamemaker Plutarch Heavensbee in 'Catching Fire'
Philip Seymour Hoffman has reportedly been cast in the next Hunger Games movie.
The Oscar-winning actor will apparently play Plutarch Heavensbee, the Head Gamemaker in Catching Fire. “The deal was made right before the Fourth of July holiday,” a source told E! News. An official announcement from film studio Lionsgate is said to be coming “any day now”.
Catching Fire, the second film in the fantasy trilogy, is due to begin filming this Autumn. Gary Ross directed the first Hunger Games film, but the sequel will be helmed by Francis Lawrence, who previously steered Water For Elephants.
The Hunger Games, an adaptation of the first novel in a trilogy by author Suzanne Collins, was released last March. Starring Jennifer Lawrence as heroine Katniss, it grossed more than $677m (£432m) at the worldwide box office.
Catching Fire, the second film in the series, is currently scheduled for a November 2013 release. Lawrence will reprise her role as Katniss, while castmates Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth have also been confirmed for the sequel. Last week it was reported that Sucker Punch actress Jena Malone had also been offered a prominent role in the film.
