‘Pirates Of The Caribbean 5’ and ‘The Muppets 2’ get official release dates from Disney

Disney also confirms that a planned 3D re-release of 'The Little Mermaid' has now been cancelled

Disney has announced release dates for Pirates Of The Caribbean 5 and the sequel to The Muppets.

Johnny Depp‘s fifth outing as Captain Jack Sparrow will open in cinemas on July 10, 2015 – a gap of over four years since the last instalment, On Stranger Tides, which came out in May 2011. It was reported yesterday (January 14) that experienced screenwriter Jeff Nathanson has been hired to pen the film’s script.

Meanwhile, the sequel to last year’s The Muppets has been scheduled for March 21, 2014. Ricky Gervais has recently confirmed that he will star alongside Kermit and Miss Piggy, while Modern Family actor Ty Burrell is set to appear as a lazy Interpol agent.

Earlier this month (January 2013), it was reported that Golden Globes host Tina Fey is also in talks for a role. The story is said to be a “European-centric adventure” and filming is set to begin in London this month.

While announcing a brace of release dates, Disney also confirmed that the planned 3D re-release of The Little Mermaid has now been cancelled. The animated classic was due to return to cinemas this September (2013).
