Judd Apatow insists Christina Applegate will return as Veronica Corningstone in the comedy sequel
Producer Judd Apatow has insisted that Christina Applegate “will be back” for the upcoming Anchorman sequel.
Last month an Anchorman 2 teaser trailer was released in which Will Ferrell, Steve Carell, Paul Rudd and David Koechner revived their roles from the original film.
Applegate also has a key role in the 2004 comedy as co-anchor and love interest Veronica Corningstone, but does not appear in the new trailer.
However, producer Apatow told E! News yesterday that “she will be back”.
Last week Applegate admitted that she was keen to return, saying: “Of course I would love to be there. They know that. The world knows that. Why would I not want to?… They know that I want to be there, even if it’s just a walk-on.”
The script for Anchorman 2 is still being written by Apatow and Adam Mackay, the director of the original film. Mackay will also direct the sequel, with shooting expected to begin next year.
Applegate, 40, is currently starring in US sitcom Up All Night.
