Reynolds first played Wade Wilson a.k.a. Deadpool, a Marvel Comics anti-hero famed for his over-chatty personality and tendency to break the fourth wall, in 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine. The character’s long-awaited solo movie has been in the works since 2010.

Visual effects specialist Tim Miller, whose CV includes creating the opening sequence for 2013’s Thor: The Dark World, is making his directorial debut from a script by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, the creators of US hoax-based comedy series The Joe Schmo Show.

Miller started shooting this Monday (March 23) in Vancouver, Canada with Reynolds topping a cast that includes Haywire‘s Gina Carano, former Homeland actress Morena Baccarin and Silicon Valley star T.J. Miller. Deadpool is set for release on February 16, 2016.
