Sia has been cast in ‘My Little Pony: The Movie’

She'll also contribute two original songs to the soundtrack

Sia has joined the voice cast of My Little Pony: The Movie.

The film’s makers Lionsgate and Hasbro announced her casting at the My Little Pony panel at Comic Con in San Diego today (July 22). As well as providing the voice of a pony pop star called Songbird Serenade, Sia will contribute a pair of original songs to the film’s soundtrack.

She joins an impressive voice cast that includes Emily Blunt, Liev Schreiber, Kristen Chenoweth, Orange Is The New Black‘s Uzo Aduba and Ant-Man‘s Michael Pena. My Little Pony: The Movie is due to open in cinemas in October 2017.

Sia’s previous acting credits include a voice role as a puppet on an episode of the acclaimed Amazon series Transparent. Last year she announced plans to direct a film starring Maddie Ziegler, the dancer from her ‘Chandelier’, ‘Elastic Heart’, ‘Cheap Thrills’ and ‘Big Girls Cry’ videos.

The singer-songwriter has already written the script for the film, which is titled Sister, with help from children’s author Dalles Clayton. The script is based on a short story Sia wrote eight years ago.

Sia made her directorial debut with last year’s ‘Chandelier’ video, and also directed the ‘Big Girls Cry’ and ‘Cheap Thrills’ videos and co-directed the controversial ‘Elastic Heart’ video, which stars Ziegler and Shia LaBeouf.
