‘Skyfall’ is now Britain’s biggest film of 2012

In just 12 days, the new Bond movie has overtaken 'The Dark Knight Rises' at the box office

Skyfall has already become Britain’s biggest film of 2012.

In just 12 days, the new Bond movie has taken a whopping £57 million at the UK box office – more than The Dark Knight Rises (£56.2 million since July) and The Avengers (£51.6 million since April).

That total is enough to make Skyfall the most successful Bond movie ever in the UK, overtaking the £55.6 million earned by 2006’s Casino Royale.

Skyfall opened in the UK and Ireland on October 26, but it only arrives in US cinemas today (November 9). Globally, the highest-grossing Bond film to date is Casino Royale, which raked in $594 million (£370 million) in 2006.

Daniel Craig, who returns for his third outing as the iconic spy in Skyfall, is already confirmed for at last two more appearances. Last week, he dismissed rumours that the Bond franchise will continue with a new 007 story spread over two separate films.

Meanwhile, Skyfall director Sam Mendes has recently admitted that he would consider returning, depending on how the audience responds to his first Bond movie. Alongside Craig, Skyfall also stars Ben Whishaw, Javier Bardem, Judi Dench and Naomie Harris. You can watch the trailer below.
