Zachary Quinto has scotched rumours that he is quitting the Star Trek franchise.
Quinto made his name playing serial killer Sylar on TV show Heroes before taking on the iconic role of Spock in JJ Abrams’ 2009 Star Trek reboot. He will make a second appearance as Spock in Abrams’ sequel, Star Trek Into Darkness, which is due next year (2013).
Earlier this month (November 2012), Quinto told Entertainment Weekly that he is ready to “go in a different direction” after Star Trek Into Darkness comes out. He said at the time: “It’s like an era of association with certain roles – a specific part like Spock, or a kind of part, like Sylar – is coming to an end.”
However, the actor has since taken to Twitter to clarify his comments. He posted:
simmer down kids. rumors are rumors for a reason. quotes out of context. let's let the second movie come out before we talk about a third…

Star Trek Into Darkness is scheduled for release in cinemas worldwide on May 17 2013. Plot details are being kept under wraps, but Sherlock star Benedict Cumberbatch is known to be playing a villain. Alongside Quinto, Chris Pine will reprise his role as Captain James T Kirk and Simon Pegg will return as Scotty.
Discussing the sequel back in September (2012), Pine promised “a really big story” and “huge” character development, while Quinto has called Abrams’ second Star Trek film “bigger and bolder” than his first.
