Ahead of the Seoul games of 1988 du Pont bankrolled the training of Olympic gold-winning wrestler brothers Dave and Mark Schultz (Mark Ruffalo and Channing Tatum). They joined his Foxcatcher team before events took a sinister turn.

Tipped for an Oscar nomination Carell won plaudits for his performance when the film premiered at the Cannes Festival in May. The actor could follow in the footsteps of Nicole Kidman who won an Oscar for her portrayal of Virginia Woolf in The Hours. The Australian actress wore a prosthetic nose for the part.

Foxcatcher will make its UK premiere at the London Film Festival on October 16 before going on general release on January 9 next year.

Mark Ruffalo will reprise his role as The Hulk in next summer’s The Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Channing Tatum is working on a follow up to male stripper comedy Magic Mike and will be seen next in Jupiter Ascending – the new sci-fi adventure from Matrix-makers the Wachowskis.
