Coogan would work once more with Michael Winterbottom on film

Steve Coogan is being lined up to play porn baron Paul Raymond in a new film about his life.

The Alan Partridge star would be re-united with director Michael Winterbottom for the project, after the pair worked together on 24 Hour Party People and A Cock And Bull Story.

The film is an adaptation of writer Paul Willet‘s biography Members Only: The Life And Times Of Paul Raymond. The writer revealed that talks are “well-advanced” for Coogan to star, in a talk he gave at the Westminster Reference Library at the weekend, according to Chorlte.co.uk.

Raymond was a legendary Soho figure who opened the UK’s first strip club, Raymond Revue Bar, in 1958. He also published the magazines Razzle, Mayfair and Men Only. After investing his money in property, Raymond died a multi-millionaire recluse in 2008.

The film has the working title Paul Raymond’s Wonderful World Of Erotica. It is being made by Winterbottom‘s company Revolution Films, with Film Four. The script is being adapted from the book by Matt Greenhalgh, who also adapted the script for the Ian Curtis biopic Control.
