Spielberg and Cooper are teaming up for a movie adaptation of Chris Kyle's book 'American Sniper'
Steven Spielberg has picked his next project as director.
The triple Oscar winner has signed on to direct a film adaptation of American Sniper, the bestselling autobiography of US Navy SEAL Chris Kyle – famed for being the most lethal sniper in US military history.
Bradley Cooper is attached to star as Kyle and will also serve as one of the film’s producers, THR reports. Spielberg hopes to begin shooting early next year (2014).
Kyle’s book was published in January 2012 and reveals how he came to post a record total of 160 confirmed sniper kills during his decade in military service. In an ironic twist of fate, Kyle was killed earlier this year at a shooting range in Texas by a fellow veteran who is now awaiting a murder trial.
Spielberg’s most recent film as director was Lincoln starring Daniel Day-Lewis, which came out last November (2012). He had been due to follow Lincoln with a sci-fi film called Robopocalypse, but the project has since been postponed indefinitely.
