‘Sucker Punch’ actress to star in next ‘Hunger Games’ film?

Jena Malone has reportedly been offered a role in 'Catching Fire', sequel to 'The Hunger Games'

Jena Malone has reportedly been offered a role in the next Hunger Games film.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the actress is in talks to play Johanna Mason, who becomes a big sister figure to Jennifer Lawrence’s Katniss. The character has a key role in Catching Fire, the upcoming sequel to The Hunger Games, and would also appear in the potential third film in the series, Mockingjay.

Industry rumours have previously linked newcomer Zoe Aggeliki and Jane Eyre star Mia Wasikowska to the Mason role, which will require the actress to deliver witty one-liners and wield an axe convincingly. However, Wasikowska has since denied that she is in the running.

The Hunger Games, an adaptation of the first novel in a trilogy by author Suzanne Collins, was released last March. Starring Jennifer Lawrence as heroine Katniss, it grossed more than $677m (£432m) at the worldwide box office.

Catching Fire, the second film in the series, is scheduled for release in November 2013. Lawrence will reprise her role as Katniss, while castmates Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth have also been confirmed for the sequel.

Malone, 27, is best known for her role as Rocket in Sucker Punch, an action film that came out last year. She also starred in Donnie Darko, Saved! and The Ruins.
