‘Tarzan’ film to be released in 2016

Warner confirms opening date for film

The new 3D Tarzan film has finally been given a release date, it has been confirmed.

As Total Film reports, Warner had been forced to temporarily place the project on hold due to budget concerns, but they have now revealed that the film will open in US cinemas on July 1, 2016.

The project was given the green light in November last year and will be directed by filmmaker David Yates, who helmed the last four installments in the Harry Potter franchise.

Django Unchained and Inglorious Basterds actor Christoph Waltz has also been linked with the project, as has Samuel L Jackson, while True Blood‘s Alexander Skarsgård will take on the title role. The Wolf Of Wall Street actress Margot Robbie, meanwhile, has also signed on to play Jane.

Tarzan, a character created by American author Edward Rice Burroughs, last swung into cinemas in 1999 in an animated Disney movie. Over the years, he has been portrayed on screen by numerous actors, including Johnny Weissmuller, Christopher Lambert and Casper Van Dien.
