'The Dark Knight Rises', 'The Avengers' and 'Skyfall' are shortlisted for multiple prizes too
Ted and Django Unchained are the leading contenders at this year’s MTV Movie Awards with seven nominations apiece.
Seth MacFarlane‘s R-rated comedy and Quentin Tarantino’s ensemble western will compete for the Movie Of The Year gong against The Dark Knight Rises, The Avengers and Silver Linings Playbook. Meanwhile, MacFarlane is an unlikely nominee in the Best Shirtless Performance category for his chest-baring turn as Ted‘s furry title character.
Silver Linings Playbook is right behind with six nominations, while The Dark Knight Rises picks up five and The Avengers and Skyfall earn four apiece. However, the final Twilight movie, Breaking Dawn – Part 2, is all but snubbed, picking up just one nomination for Taylor Lautner’s shirtless performance as buff werewolf Edward.
This year’s MTV Movie Awards will be announced on April 14 in a televised ceremony hosted by Rebel Wilson, who could become a winner on the night. The Pitch Perfect star will battle Jennifer Lawrence, Anne Hathaway, Mila Kunis and Emma Watson for the Best Female Performance prize, as well as competing for the Best Breakthrough Performance trophy.
Meanwhile, Oscar winner Daniel Day-Lewis squares up to Ben Affleck, Bradley Cooper, Channing Tatum and Jamie Foxx in the Best Male Performance category. Other nominees include Martin Freeman, whose turn in The Hobbit earns him a nomination for Best Scared-As-Shit Performance, and Skyfall‘s Javier Bardem, who’s shortlisted for Best Villain.
In addition, the ever popular Best WTF Moment gong returns again this year, with scenes from Ted, Django Unchained, Skyfall, Pitch Perfect and Flight all in the running.
