Tesco apologises for “offensive” ‘Black Panther’ costume mix-up

Supermarket labelled the item as 'Dark Panther'

Tesco has said it is “extremely sorry” for “any offence caused” after erroneously labelling a Black Panther costume as ‘Dark Panther’.

The mistake came in a fancy dress listing on the Tesco website, which saw the item incorrectly described as a “Marvel Avengers Dark Panther Fancy Dress Costume”.

After customers took to social media to point out the error, Tesco amended the product description on its website and issued an apology.

In a statement, Tesco has said: “This was a mistake and we are extremely sorry for any offence caused.”

“We are correcting the description of this product on our website and are reviewing our processes to ensure this doesn’t happen again.”

Earlier this month, BBC presenter Jeremy Vine was met with a backlash after describing the Black Panther cast as “overwhelmingly black” on air.

Black Panther has received rave reviews and smashed box office records since its release. NME dubbed the film “the best Marvel movie yet” in our review.
