‘The Avengers’ wins top prize at MTV Movie Awards

Jennifer Lawrence and Rebel Wilson also win awards, while Will Ferrell gets stage-bombed

The Avengers won the top prize at the MTV Movie Awards yesterday (April 14), beating Django Unchained and The Dark Knight Rises to be named “movie of the year”.

Joss Whedon’s blockbuster picked up two other prizes at the annual awards ceremony: best villain for Tom Hiddleston‘s Loki and best fight. Meanwhile, Silver Linings Playbook also won a hat-trick of awards, including acting trophies for stars Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper.

The televised ceremony was hosted by Rebel Wilson, who won the best breakthrough performance award for her role in musical comedy Pitch Perfect. She and her castmates from the film also collected an ensemble honour for best musical moment.

Meanwhile, Will Ferrell appeared to collect a special “comedic genius award”, but his acceptance speech was interrupted by an apparently unplanned stage appearance from Parks and Recreation star Aubrey Plaza. Scroll down and click ‘play’ to watch the incident.
