Sacha Baron Cohen's comedy takes almost £5million

The Dictator has ended the three-week reign of Avengers Assemble at the UK box office.

Sacha Baron Cohen‘s new comedy, which sees him play Admiral General Aladeen, deposed despotic leader of the Republic Of Wadiya, easily took the top spot on its opening weekend, taking almost £5million.

Tim Burton‘s Dark Shadows holds its position at number three, while comedy sequel American Pie: Reunion drops to four.

Meanwhile acclaimed martial arts epic The Raid makes an impressive debut at five from just 297 locations, while The Pirates! In An Adventure With Scientists returns to the Top 10 after a four per cent climb in ticket sales.
