The first trailer for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire has appeared online after premiering at the MTV Movie Awards yesterday (April 14). Scroll down and click ‘play’ to watch it.
The atmospheric teaser suggests serious trouble is brewing for Jennifer Lawrence‘s Katniss Everdeen, who begins the film as the victor of the 74th annual hunger games. It shows Donald Sutherland’s President Snow hatching a plan to destroy her with head gamemaker Plutarch Heavensbee, a new character played by Philip Seymour Hoffman.
The Hunger Games: Catching Fire is the sequel to last year’s The Hunger Games, an adaptation of the first novel in a trilogy by author Suzanne Collins. The film grossed over $686million (£428million) worldwide, becoming the ninth highest earner of 2012.
Alongside Lawrence, original Hunger Games cast members Liam Hemsworth, Josh Hutcherson, Lenny Kravitz, Woody Harrelson and Elizabeth Banks have all returned for the second film. Meanwhile, British actor Sam Claflin (pictured right) has joined the cast as Finnick Odair, a potential love interest for Lawrence’s Katniss.
The Hunger Games: Catching Fire opens in UK cinemas on November 22. Collins’ final Hunger Games novel, Mockingjay, will be split into two separate films, which are set for release in November 2014 and November 2015.
