Simon Bird and the rest of the gang will reunite to shoot the sequel later this year (2013)

A sequel to The Inbetweeners Movie has finally been confirmed and will arrive in UK cinemas next August (2014).

The follow-up will be shot later this year, a Channel 4 press release reveals, with stars Simon Bird, Joe Thomas, James Buckley and Blake Harrison all reprising their roles from the popular TV series.

The show’s creators Iain Morris and Damon Beesley said in a statement: “We couldn’t be more excited to be making another Inbetweeners movie with Simon, Joe, James and Blake. Frankly it’s pathetic how much we’ve all missed each other. A new chapter in the lives of the Inbetweeners feels like the very least we can do to thank the fans for their phenomenal response to the first movie.”

Bird had promised that the second Inbetweeners movie was on its way last week (July 25) after it was reported by The Sun in May that the entire cast had signed up for a sequel set in Australia.

Released in 2011, The Inbetweeners Movie followed the show’s crew of not-quite-cool teenagers on a holiday to Crete. It became the highest-grossing comedy film in UK box office history with takings of £45million.

The Inbetweeners originally ran for three series on E4 between 2008 and 2010, and was voted Best TV Show at the NME Awards in 2010. A US remake aired on MTV last year (2012) but got the axe after just one season.
