Intriguing unnamed Marvel project also in the pipeline...
The release dates for sequels to The Wolverine and The Fantastic Four have been revealed.
X-Men spin-off The Wolverine, a standalone adventure for Hugh Jackman’s character Logan, was released in last summer. According to Collider, Fox have now confirmed that a follow-up film will hit cinemas on March 3, 2017.
Meanwhile, while the planned reboot of The Fantastic Four is yet to open in cinemas, Fox have already locked down a release date for a sequel, which will debut in July, 2017. There will also be intrigue about an as-yet-unknown new Marvel project, which will follow on July 13, 2018.
It was revealed earlier this year that The Fantastic Four franchise will be relaunched, with Kate Mara, Miles Teller, Michael B Jordan and Jamie Bell in the roles of the Invisible Woman, the Human Torch, Mr Fantastic and the Thing.
The 2005 film adaptation of The Fantastic Four starred Jessica Alba, Ioan Gruffudd, Chris Evans and Michael Chiklis as the superhero team. As in the comic books, which began in 1961, they gained superpowers after exposure to cosmic rays during a scientific mission in outer space, and the cast returned for 2007 sequel Rise Of The Silver Surfer. The films were widely panned by critics upon release, although they did perform relatively well at the box office.
